Troubleshooting

The graphics don’t look right; they have trails when I put the mouse over the playing field.

This is likely because you have a Gforce 2 64MB video card. Try going into View/Advance Options and check marking the Triple Buffer box in the server select screen.

I can’t find where to change my resolution for the game.

In the server selection screen enter the Resolution menu. In the game Main Menu, select Options then Resolution.

My game controller doesn’t work. How do I set it up?

Make sure it is set up correctly for Windows. Then on the server selection screen, select View/Keyboard/Gamepad Configuration. Click on the function you wish to add to the game controller, then press the button or direction pad to assign it to that function. This can be done in the game as well in the Main Menu by selecting Options then Keyboard config.

I use an analog controller and the movement is slow.

Cosmic Rift is not yet set up for analog control. Check to see if your controller settings have a digital function.

I get a message that says, “You have been sent to spectator mode due to excessive latency.” What causes this?

Excessive ping times or packet loss from your Internet connection will result in this message. Other applications running in the background can also cause latency effects, or, could be using your Internet connection in the background and thus causing latency problems.

Make sure no unnecessary applications are running when Cosmic Rift is running such as: email programs, messaging programs or web browsers.

I get disconnected because of “Clock timing” issues. What is this and how do I fix it?

This arises when you’re the server detects that your client is running out of sync with what your CPU is reporting and with what the server expects. This behavior is exhibited on machines using clock-modifying cheats, which the client can detect and protect against. This can also be caused by other applications running in the background using too much CPU time, such as MP3 music players. Computers with clock wander or malfunctioning components can also cause this.

Make sure there are no other unnecessary applications running in the background when you are playing Cosmic Rift.

How can I increase my frame rate?

You can do a number of things. You can change your resolution: You can do this from the game front end: Click on the “Resolution” menu option. You can also do this in game by pressing <ESC> once then selecting “Options” with the pointer and then selecting “Resolution”.

Under “Graphic Options” there are a couple settings that may help to increase your frame rate:

Setting “Fake Alpha Blending” to “Yes” will make a pretty big difference but will have some loss of certain details.

The “View Line of Sight” and “Line of Sight Blended” settings allow you to change how you see the LOS effects. This can result in a large improvement in Frame Rates.

How do I change my keyboard configuration?

You can change it in 2 locations: From the front end by clicking “View” and then clicking “Keyboard/Gamepad configuration”, or, from within the game by hitting <ESC> then selecting “Options” then selecting “Keyboard Config”.

I get the message “Cannot establish connection to the server…” What does this mean?

The client is telling you it cannot find the server you selected or that it is not receiving data from the selected game server. Try hitting the “refresh” button on the client front end. If this does not help, verify you have a working Internet connection.
